Artist Statement
 
I’m Fariba Shafiee (Farsi: فریبا شفیعی), a Los Angeles–based character artist and worldbuilder with a background in architecture who uses multimedia 3D platforms, including video games, to create immersive worlds where present social and political realities converge with speculative futures.
These worlds draw from my lived experiences in a surveillance state and the dichotomies of immigration, functioning as synthetic spaces that carry stories into new forms of cultural continuity.
A digital hybrid being, such as jinns of Islamic mythology, healers or cyborgs, inhabits each world, shaping its presence and narrative. Their presence demonstrates perceived agency, inviting audiences to engage in ways that blur the line between observer and participant.
